Centennial Olympic Park is another popular tourist destination. The 1996 Summer Olympics were held at the Park, which is still used today. Several music concerts and events are held each year, including an annual Independence Day concert and fireworks show. Families will also enjoy visiting the Atlanta Botanical Garden, a 30-acre garden dedicated to maintaining and researching plant collections. The Garden is also very active in conservation efforts, developing a Green Expansion Plan to double the size of the Garden and preserve even more plants.
History fans will enjoy visiting the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. Declared a Historic Site in 1980, the Site consists of multiple buildings, including King Jr.’s childhood home and the church where he was baptized. There is also a museum dedicated to the American Civil Rights Movement, as well as the “I Have a Dream” International World Peace Rose Garden.
